Rain Water Management with Green Roofs and Living Walls


Plant species spends shade, evaporates water and decorates buildings. Trees and ornamental plants are essential elements of livable Cities. These plants can be planted as well as “Biosystems” also to enhance the urban water cycle. Some of this knowledge is old; some ideas are combined in a new way. At least there are some project examples, from several places in the world, where green infrastructures reduce energy consumption for heating and cooling. Most of these functions are based on the bio function of plants. This idea is standing in the very beginning.

As an example the green façades at the project “Building of physics in Berlin – Adlershof” are monitored since 2002 under the aspect of rainwater management.
